RE: The tariff classification of a fan center from Mexico

Dear Ms. Severson:

In your letter dated March 10, 2000 you requested a classification ruling.

As noted in your request, there are five models of these fan centers in question, identified as R8285A1006, R8285B1038, R8285C1002, R8285E1007, and R8285F1005. Each fan center consists of an electrical relay, transformer and terminal board, all of which are mounted on an outlet box cover. These fan centers are used in conjunction with a thermostat to switch the fan blower on and off in a heating system.

The applicable subheading for the five models of fan centers will be 8536.49.0080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for other relays. The duty rate will be 2.7 percent ad valorem. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist David Curran at 212-637-7049.

Sincerely,
